Question #1:

ipod wont play on boombox?

It is a sony dual acoustic bass expansion boombox, here is a link with a picture: Click Here
and I plugged a audio cable into my ipod and then into the headphone jack and no sound will come out. I can have the mode on cd tape or radio, i dunno which i should use. I know the ipod and audio cable works because i can use it when i hook it directly up to speakers. is it possible to play an ipod using this boombox?

Question #2:

Does this boombox have amplifier built in?

I have a Boombox I got for my b-day like seven years ago or something and it's been sitting around in my room collecting dust. I was thinking of connecting my iPod to the detachable speakers it came with. The speakers connect to the unit using one red and one black wire. I researched online and found that in order to connect the speaker wires to a 3.5 mm jack, I need to first get an amplifier...unless of course there is one already in the speakers. My question is, how do I know if there is one built in? It doesn't look like the speakers have any other connection other than the red and black wires....no power source is connected to them. Again, these are detachable speakers so I can completely remove them from the boombox. My question is: can you look at the specs and let me know if there is an amplifier in them?

Question #12:

My head's going to explode! Do I need an XM receiver if I have an XM-ready car stereo?

I will be ever so grateful if I can find help here as an hour of googling has me about as confused as I was before. Here's what I want to do:

My wife currently has an XM Roady XT and for Christmas wants a boombox what allows for docking of the Roady to play XM wherever she goes (primarily in the house).
Our aniversary is 2 days after Christmas, so I want to wrap these gifts together by:

Christmas gift - Purchasing a boombox such as an XM Audiovox Xpress portable boombox to use with her existing XM Roady.
I've read that docking and undocking the XM Roady can damage the Roady's "port" or whatever it's called. So I'd like to have her just keep the Roady in the boombox and this leads me to her anniversary gift.

Anniversary gift - I would like to purchase a stereo for her Corolla that will replace the factory stereo that will play XM channels without the need for another XM receiver so she doesn't have to keep moving her XM Roady from the boombox to the car. I know I will have to have another subscription for this, so I'm prepared for a price hike in monthly payments (which I'm already paying).

My question- does the car stereo description "XM Ready" mean it serves as a receiver and no external receiver is needed to listen to XM?

I am looking at the JVC KD-R800 that is described as "XM Ready" and I hope this means all I'll need to do is activate a new account with XM to have this playing XM as well.
Is this how things work or am I still confused?

Thanks tremendously in advance for any assistance you can provide!

Question #13:

Is it a good idea to bring a boombox to a college dorm?

I really like music, and I like the quality of the music from my radio. It's pretty bulky, though, and I already have an MP3 player and my computer (which streams radio through pandora.com). Should I bring it? For all you college students, do you have a radio in your dorms, or just a portable music player?
